In the book Inside the White Cube: The Ideology of the Gallery Space, Brian O'Doherty highlights the differences between murals and framed paintings. He states ‘murals project ambiguous and wandering vectors with which the spectator attempts to align himself. The easel picture on the wall quickly indicates to him exactly where he stands’. (O’Doherty, 1986, p.18)
In Concurrently the difference becomes subtle. Indeed, the beholder's need to move in the space is countered by the static image contained by the painting hanging on the wall.
